SETTING UP A PERIMETER BAITING PROGRAM OUTDOORS

The surest way to keep your facility rodent-free is to stop rats and mice before they enter a building. A baiting program set up along the exterior perimeter of your buildings acts as the first line of defense against invading rodents.

See Products for specific product details.

BAIT EXTERIOR PERIMETER OF BUILDINGS
Set up a ring of tamper-resistant Tomcat Bait Stations around each building's foundation. Bait stays fresher in bait stations, protected from dust, moisture and other contaminants.

We recommend establishing a 3-foot sterile zone around the building which is free of any vegetation and debris, and preferably covered with gravel.

BAIT STATION PLACEMENT
Place the bait stations every 30 to 50 feet for rats and closer, 15 to 30 feet, for mice. Rats normally travel 150 to 200 feet from their nest and mice travel approximately 50 feet or so. This is a guideline dependent on rodent pressure in the area.

ENTRY POINTS
Place bait stations near potential entry point for rodents, such as near entry doors, outside vents, unsealed utility lines, or openings for feed lines going into the building.

BAIT WITH CHUNX
Use bait Chunx outdoors. Chunx hold up well, and rodents love the taste and the multiple edges for gnawing. A hole in the Chunx lets you secure it on the vertical securing rods that keep bait in the bait station. Rodents can't translocate Chunx so you don't have to worry about accidental pointing of livestock, wildlife or other non-target animals.

SECURE BAIT STATION
Secure the bait station by adhering it to a patio black or staking it to the ground. Moisture is less likely to build up when the bait station is elevated off the ground. Bait stays fresh longer.

MONITOR STATIONS REGULARLY
Inspect stations monthly or more frequently until you have the infestation under control. Increase baiting in areas with high activity or move bait stations that show no activity.

FRESH BAIT
Keep up a fresh supply of bait. Rats and mice are particular about their food and will reject rancid or spoiled bait.

BAIT ROTATION
Rotate baits according to Motomco's yearly Bait Rotation Program: 2 months of Rampage,
4 months of Jaguar and 6 months of Hawk.

BURROW BAITING

Norway rats like to burrow underground and the best way to control them is to bait their burrows.

Place loose pellet bait, rather than Chunx, down the burrow because rats can't kick pellets out of their holes. With a long handled spoon, place pellets deep in the burrow without disturbing it too much.

Wait a week or so, then kick in the burrows.

Check the next day to see if burrows are re-opened and continue baiting until activity ceases. Inspect burrows periodically as part of your maintenance program.
